Programs

GUIDE RIGHT/KAPPA LEAGUE

Purpose: To use the fraternity’s international Guide Right Program as a model and foundation for the development, implementation and administration of a highly visible and productive Guide Right program on the Virginia Peninsula.

This program is designed to help young men grow and develop their leadership talents. The Hampton-Newport News Alumni Chapter expanded the program to include educational, tutorial, mentoring, career counseling, partnerships, special interest programs, and athletic teams. 15 to 25 young men participating in this program are grouped as:

Kappa League Pals - Ages 11-13
Kappa League Knights - Ages 14-18

Committee Functions: This committee’s responsibility is twofold: 1) The full implementation of the Kappa League element of the International Guide Right Program, and 2) The provision of funding, administration and oversight for the Kappa Cardinals Athletic Association. The latter provides for the use of sports as a means to have continuous contact with hundreds of youths on the Peninsula. As a result, youths between the ages of 6 and 15 are afforded access to academic guidance and mentorship by Chapter members throughout each fraternity year.

Kappa League
The Kappa League began the new school year with the election of officers and a lecture on leadership from Guide Right Committee members.

Kappa Cardinals Athletic Association
The Kappa Cardinals Athletic Association began its ninth year as a solid entity within the Hampton Parks and Recreation Department’s youth football program. One hundred and ten football players and 50 cheerleaders began preparation.
